The title is insulting for all the women that have struggle with underweight issues.  I have always been call names due to my petite size.  Even family has participated in the name calling….. Coming from a Latin American country where voluptuous women are considered the norm of beauty and moving to this country experiencing the opposite -that being skinny is the norm. It makes me feel that women let this happened to please men.  It is hard for me to know who is 16, 24 or 37 years of age when I’m in the street…everyone wants to look the same, body type.  They dress the same, weight the same and act the same.  Is so disturbing that everyone has to fit in the media profile.

I feel a lot of this situations start so early in life and parents neglecting communication or help makes the scenario worst for the child well being.  A lot of children experienced this emotions but parents don’t know how to help them.  I’m not saying, I have all the answers but the best support you can give your child is love.  A lot of children that are not sure what is that they are experiencing takes them to a road of suicide and drugs.  Hiding your true feelings from your parents has to be one of the hardest things for a child.  However, therapy could help so much to realize what the child is going through.  A lot of cases kids are just experimenting and copying from TV.  Some of this shows confused children emotions and sexuality and because they are restricted at school the only outlet is watching TV to determine what is the solution to their problems.

I’m dying to see the movie too. I started watching the show from the first season but stop watching by the third season. It became a commercial to me and I got turn off by all the marketing.  Love the stereotypes; I believe men and women have the same issues about commitment and trying to settle with the right person. Women are stronger and more independent than before and they are coping the male dating style.  Very few times I heard girls talking about dating different guys at the same time but now is like a rule, especially in the reality TV shows, is the template for success.  Perhaps this shows are allowing women to see different ways to get the ONE.  Dating friends is extremely hard if there isn't at least one of these spiritual, emotional or sexual chemistries. It  is hard to make something work…The problem is when that chemistry runs out what’s next……

I’m speechless!!! I wish my nine year old could read this so she could learn from my mistakes and women in general.  Your post hit deep…I feel like crying..I’m actually crying.  This is so poetic you describe the inside of accumulated anger in many women or men.  There are a lot of men who are treated this way.  I was having a discussion about this subject this week with professional women who decided to stay home with their children and after X years their husband under estimate, put down, don’t bother to discuss or don’t respect their opinion once their locked in a Mac Mansion. Women are starting to notice the insecurities of the world, media, religion…Etc.

Nicely done!!!

Week 3 Post Greener: Men vs Women

Reading my usual bogs regarding environment and communities.  I came across a great article that made me reflect in gender.  The site had a post title who’s greener: Men vs. Women.  The typical stereotype about blaming women for all the wrong doings even Global Warming is in discussion.  Some responses expressed how women drive all the SUV, buy variety personal products and cook so much.  It is impossible for someone to determent who is greener and who’s not. It is a personal choice regardless the gender.   A lot of women and men started this movement a while back and to think that because of Al Gore’s presentation, men can take more credit for being green is absurd.  Women are more motherly by nature because they give birth and this might be a big reason why they are more concern with the future of their offspring.  In the other hand, men are the providers and have to think about better choices of creating better resources for the planet. Do you think they are doing the job? Or should women be more involved in the resource planning for the future?  Through out history, who do you think have given more positive ideas towards our well being in general?

Religion was a big factor in introducing so many codes to the media industries until the late 50’s.  These codes were so strict about women behaviors in the screen that made look everything Naïve.  If you go back to the Film Noir era a lot of the women who were leading actresses in this genre took roles that were considered risqué.  Female audiences started to catch up in the power of femme fatales and give women a chance creating more outlets of expression. After the sixties most of the independent women from that era were consider Feminist and this term became the men hater term for women who did not agree with male decisions or opinions.  It is taking us another 50 years to realize that their insecurities are weakening patriarchal times.  However, the media and entertainment business will invent another term but I hope women don’t get caught up in that trap again. We are more educated NOW!

I saw this commercial today about cow’s cheese: The cows were trying to get together to eat some dandelions planted on purposed by some bulls who wanted to direct the cows to an specific spot.  I was so offended by the whole commercial because it didn’t give the cows credit for being smart.   They are the ones who produce the milk for the cheese anyway!!!!! Even in commercials like this one gender communication to the receiver is so unfair.  I will never buy cheese from that company!

Comments Dori's post Wk 3

I agree with your comments.  Discrimination problems towards women are exposed in all fields. Not only it is expected for men or women to perform equally but once having a family subject comes to reality in someone’s life, changes the perspective of a lot of views towards working women.  In some cases it is a fear that women have once they get pregnant to share the news with coworkers.  Most women wait a while until they are far ahead in their pregnancies.  Insecurities are caused by feelings of being replace with someone who has no family commitments.  Not only this is the case in women but in men too.  Some men are extremely committed to spend time with their families and they are also discriminated.  As Woods describes in her book per every dollar that a men makes a women gets 75 cents, having this differences still in this times make women catching up harder in every field.  My sister is doing a PHD in Biology and I hope she doesn’t have to experience this pay discrimination.  Happy to report that in her field there are a lot of young women but the percentage of them who will finish, get married and have kids is yet to be seen.   However most of the Program directors are men so it gives this generation an unbalance start.  I have this other couple who are both scientist and have children ages 2 and 4. It is a strugle for them to balance family, work etc. Right now they feel eventually one of them have to quit to stay with the children.  I’m hoping it will be him because it will make the standards a little different. Unless he is making more money than her and then the answer is set.  Men will always gain control of their lives due to better pay, society family standards. However, I’m hopeful because of classes like this that educate so many.
